  • C. Douglas Evans, MD

    C. Douglas Evans, MD is a specialist in Cataract and Refractive Surgery as well as disease and surgery of the anterior segment the eye such as glaucoma. He has been in practice with North Suburban Eye Associates on the North Shore of Boston since 1993 and serves as the managing partner and owner of the practice. Under his leadership the practice has grown from a single office solo practice to one with three offices in Wakefield, Winchester and Beverly and a professional staff of three full-time ophthalmologists, three full-time optometrists and five part-time ophthalmic subspecialists. His tenure also coincided with the collaborative development of the North Shore Cataract and Laser Center located in Stoneham which provides convenient high quality outpatient ambulatory eye surgery. Dr. Evans received his undergraduate education at Columbia University in New York, where he was a Josiah Macy fellow and was awarded the Charles A. Huebschman prize in science. He graduated from Dartmouth (Geisel) Medical School where he stayed on to complete an internship in internal medicine prior to completing an ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Evans served for four years with the United States air Force as an ophthalmologist based in the United Kingdom as well as MacDill AFB, Tampa, Florida prior to settling in Massachusetts. Dr. Evans’ practice is heavily geared toward cataract and refractive surgery and his surgical volume has remained one of the highest among ophthalmic surgeons in Metro Boston for a number of years. He has been certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1991; he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, as well as the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the American Medical Association. Dr. Evans is on the staff of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he performs his Lasik procedures and, on the staff of Hallmark Health and Winchester Hospital, a division of Lahey Health.

  • Kimberly Mooney-McNulty, MD

    Pediatric Opthalmologist

    Dr. Kimberly Mooney-McNulty is a Board Certified physician and surgeon who specializes in adult and pediatric ophthalmology and who is on the staff at Beverly, Melrose-Wakefield and Winchester Hospitals. Dr. Mooney-McNulty completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University. She is graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and completed her residency at Ohio State Medical Center. She then went on to complete a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Mooney-McNulty has been seeing patients in our Wakefield,Winchester and Beverly offices for over 10 years and is accepting new patients with most major health insurance plans.

  • Charles Barsam, MD

    Ophthalmologist

    As a third generation physician, Dr. Charles Barsam has committed himself to providing excellence in eye care like his father and grandfather before him. Dr. Barsam did his premedical undergraduate training at Tufts University, graduating with honors and earning degrees in both premedical and art history studies. Before attending medical school Dr. Barsam further distinguished himself academically by achieving a Masters in Medical Science from Boston University School of Medicine. His masters thesis focused on the use of laser technology treatment of Eye disease. Dr. Barsam went on to achieve his MD degree at Boston University School of Medicine where he met his future wife who current practices pediatrics in the Boston area. Barsam received his internship training in internal medicine at Harvard University’s Mount Auburn hospital. Dr. Barsam’s residency training in ophthalmology was performed at University of California at Irvine under the chairmanship of Peter McDonell, who is currently chairman Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Center. To obtain additional expertise in specialized ophthalmic surgery Dr. Barsam obtained a Fellowship degree in corneal and refractive surgery at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah. Having published numerous book chapters and scientific articles Dr. Barsam has been active in teaching physicians in fields pertaining to advanced vision correction surgery. Dr. Barsam and his wife are most proud however of their three children and very much enjoy sharing with them the wonders and grandeur of nature, taking advantage of free time to embrace outdoor recreation. Dr. Barsam sees patients in the Waltham office and is accepting new patients with most insurances

  • Rita Cherian, MD

    Optometrist

    Dr. Cherian provides full-time optometric services to our patients with medical problems such as diabetes, macular degeneration and cataracts as well as doing routine exams for well patients. She also prescribes glasses and fits and prescribes contact lenses. Dr. Cherian did her undergraduate work at Brandeis. She completed her optometric training at the New England College of Optometry and did a residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain.

  • Maura Trail, OD

    Optometrist

    Dr. Trail sees patients for routine eye exams; annual eye exams for patients with diabetes and early macular degeneration; for glasses and contact lenses and for treating ocular emergencies. Dr. Trail is one of only 10% of US optometrists who have passed the Optometry Board Certification test and is now a Diplomate in the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Trail completed her undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. She completed her optometric training at New England College of Optometry following which she spent a year of residency training at Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital. She also had 5 years of optometric practice experience in Providence, RI, and Haverhill, MA before joining North Suburban Eye Associates in 2010.

  • Andrea Farber

    Optometrist

    Dr. Farber provides care for patients seeking routine eye exams, treatment for ocular emergencies, and annual exams for patients with diabetes, cataracts, early macular degeneration, dry eye, and other ocular disease. She also fits and prescribes contact lenses and glasses. Dr. Farber received her undergraduate degree from Suffolk University and completed her optometric training at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. She spent two years practicing in Miami, FL before relocating back to Boston in 2014 and joining North Suburban Eye Associates in 2017.

  • Mark Hatton, MD

    Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

    Mark Hatton, MD specializes in ophthalmic plastics/reconstructive surgery. Dr. Hatton completed residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary where he was selected Chief Resident and held the positions of Associate Chief of Ophthalmology and the Director of Eye Trauma. He remained at Mass Eye and Ear to complete a fellowship in oculoplastics, orbit and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Hatton’s interests include all aspects of oculoplastic surgery, including ptosis, eyelid malposition, lacrimal disorders, skin cancer, disorders of the orbit and cosmetic eyelid surgery. Dr. Hatton is Board Certified and sees patients in our Wakefield office.

    Ophthalmologist

    Andre J. Witkin, MD specializes in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. Dr. Witkin complete his residency in ophthalmology at Tufts/New England Eye Center. He then went to the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia for a two-year Fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. After Fellowship, Dr. Witkin returned to Boston as an Assistant Professor at Tufts/New England Eye Center. He is available for consultation in all areas of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases, including macular degeneration, vitreomacular disorders, retinal detachment, ocular trauma, cataract complications, diabetic retinopathy, posterior segment uveitis and retinal vascular disorders. Dr. Witkin is Board Certified and sees patients in our Wakefield and Winchester offices.

    Dr. Immerman, who specializes in providing low vision services, sees patients in our two offices on a regular, scheduled basis. The disease processes that lead to needing these types of services include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, Stargardt disease.

    Ophthalmologist

    Dr. Edward McCarthy is a graduate of the University of Vermont Medical School and completed his Ophthalmology training at Wills Eye Hospital. He is on staff at Winchester Hospital and is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. McCarthy currently sees patients in the Winchester and Wakefield offices.

    Shilpa Desai, MD specializes in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. Dr. Desai received her undergraduate degree at MIT. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and went on to complete her residency at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Desai is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine.   • Ula Jurkunas, MD

    Ophthalmologist

    Dr. Ula Jurkunas is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who is fellowship trained in diseases of the cornea. She also conducts research in corneal dystrophy and stem cell transplantation. She is co-director of Harvard Ophthalmology Cornea Center of Excellence. After receiving her medical degree from University of Louisville, Dr. Jurkunas completed her ophthalmology residency at Boston University. She then completed subspecialty training in cornea, external diseases and refractive surgery at Mass Eye and Ear, serving as Chief Cornea Fellow. Dr. Jurkunas has special interest in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy, corneal transplantation, DMEK, DSAEK, corneal reconstruction with stem cells and external diseases. Dr. Jurkunas sees patients in the Winchester office on a very limited schedule
